Those students who wish to involve themselves more and commit to local events, auditions and/or competitions, they first audition to join our commitment class which is an addition to their normal classes.
Each year we host a ‘Competitive Dance Festival’, which takes place at a local venue around mid- November.
Schools from not just our local community, but also from different counties, and some who travel maybe around two hours or more, request an invitation or we invite them to enter.
Students have the opportunity to perform their various genres which they have studied in their classes. They may perform solos, duets, trios, quartets & troupe routines to a public audience. We offer various age categories in: Ballet, Tap, Modern, Lyrical, Acro/Gymnastics, Contemporary, Own Arrangements, Song & Dance, Character, Greek & National. We have an ‘Open’ section for those who have won a 1st place in any festival, or they may enter in our ‘Novice’ sections.
The Dance Festival takes place over two weekends, Saturdays and Sundays from 9.00am until approximately 7pm, depending on the number of entries received and is adjudicated by an independent industry professional adjudicator assisted by their scribe.
After a student has performed in their age category, they are awarded a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th place with a certificate & a medal. Reports sheets are also given to their various teachers with comments.
On the final day, there is a lovely ‘Trophy Presentation’ awarded to numerous students for their various achievements over the two weekends.
The festival also offers an opportunity not just for the performers, but for the parents as well, and gives an insight to all dance disciplines, and of course to watch their children perform on a huge stage in a professional theatre environment. It is one of our main highlights of the year, where students get to wear beautiful costumes to enhance their choreographed routines, to perform on stage to a public audience and all are really excited to be part of a competitive festival.
